Junjie Jeffrey Xu
Design Engineer
I started working for Yaskawa Environmental Energy / The Switch as an Engineer Trainee. In the 10 years that I’ve been working here, I’ve had a chance to job rotate inside the company to different functions from manufacturing engineering, to material management and finally to my current position as Design Engineer in mechanical engineering.
I mainly work with mechanical design for converters, engineering support for manufacturing, product localizations and product transfer. I’m also finalizing my master’s thesis, which involves developing the R&D processes of the company.
Having clear targets and working in a structured way motivates me, so I like to schedule my days in advance. My days consist of a lot of 3D modeling, reviewing Andon cases with manufacturing specialists, email correspondence with colleagues and suppliers and meetings with process owners.
What guided me towards mechanical engineering is my interest in physics and mathematics and after high school I moved from Shanghai to Finland to pursue a degree in the field. Here in Finland, I worked for a couple of years and then decided to strengthen my management and leadership skills by studying a master’s degree in industrial management.
However, I don’t just work and write my thesis. I go out and meet with family and friends, especially during the weekends. I find that with them, I am able to recharge my batteries for the exciting challenges at work.
